Take a moment and let this photograph sink into your memory.

It was one of the last photographs ever taken of Lt. Aaron Allen of the Southport Police Department as he walked his son to the bus stop for his first day of school. His son, completely unaware that a mere 6 hours later his father would be shot and killed in the line of duty.

Lt Allen responded the the scene of a personal injury accident involving a vehicle that had rolled. As he approached he was shot by one of the occupants. At this time the motive for the shooting is unknown. The suspect was apprehended after a brief gun fight with other responding officers and has been booked on first degree murder charges.

We offer our deepest sympathies to Lt. Allens family, co-workers, and the community of Southport, Indiana.
