We are relieved to inform you that Omaha Police Officer Jill Schillerberg will be ok and only suffered a minor wound during the officer involved shooting today in the midtown area.
Also involved was Omaha Police Officer Matthew Skradski who was with Officer Schillerberg at the time of the incident.

Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation
1327 Park Ave
On Monday, January 30, 2017 at 12:53 p.m., Omaha Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious person looking into vehicles and checking for open car doors in the area of 1327 Park Avenue. At 1:09 p.m. two Omaha Police Officers working in a two officer patrol car arrived in the area of South 33rd and Jackson Streets. The officers located a person that matched the description of the suspect.
Upon making contact with the suspect, there was an exchange of gunfire between the officers and the suspect. The suspect, 20-year old Monroe G. Evans, III, was struck multiple times. Officer Jill Schillerberg, was struck in the left lower leg.
Both Officer Schillerberg and Mr. Evans were transported to Nebraska Medicine by Omaha Fire Medics. Officer Schillerberg was treated for a gunshot wound to her lower leg and has been released from the hospital. Mr. Evans is currently being treated for the injuries he sustained from multiple gunshot wounds. His condition will be updated as soon as it becomes available.
The investigation is in the very early stages. Mr. Evans was armed with a handgun that was recovered at the scene. At this point in the investigation it has not been determined if one or both of the officers fired their handguns. Ballistic testing will be completed to determine if both officers fired.
Two civilian witnesses have been interviewed at this point in the investigation. Anyone who was in the area of Dewey Park and witnessed this incident is encouraged to call the Omaha Police Department at 402-444-5656.
Per Omaha Police Department policy, any officer who discharges his/her firearm during an incident is placed on paid administrative leave pending the Officer-Involved Investigations Team and Internal Affairs investigations. Both officers involved in this incident have been placed on administrative leave.
Additional information about this incident will be released by the Omaha Police Department as the investigation concludes.
