Why Did Judge Polk “Baby” Tracy Parnell?
By now you should all be well aware of the name Tracy Parnell.
For those of you who have been asleep over the last six months we shall recap:
Tracy Parnell has been incarcerated for-
- -Felony possession of a defaced firearm
- -Felony accessory to a robbery
- -Felony theft
Tracy Parnell enjoyed good time early release for all of those convictions.
Tracy Parnell is currently charged in the homicide of Benson High School honor student Eriana Carr.
Last month Parnell stood in Judge Marlon Polk’s court room to be sentenced for convictions of felony flight to avoid the police and terroristic threats.
Both of these offenses are class four felonies and thus could have resulted in a maximum sentence of five years for each conviction.
(State law mandates the maximum sentence for a class four felony is 20 months to five years)
Despite Parnell’s serious criminal past, and his continued refusal to take advantage of the numerous second and third chances he has enjoyed, Judge Polk decided to go lenient on young Tracy anyways.
Judge Polk sentenced Tracy Parnell to a maximum of 1 year for the police chase and a maximum of 2 years for the terroristic threats.
Do the math on that folks…
A combined maximum of three years which translates to only one and a half years after factoring in automatic “good time”.
State law also so mandates that Tracy Parnell must receive credit for the 233 days he spent awaiting trial.
A potential 10 year prison sentence quickly became one and a half years which ultimately means less than a year after factoring in “time served”.
This case appears to be what happens when Lincoln math meets a very lenient judge.
Your Honor….why did you “baby” Tracy Parnell?
Despite the very serious charges he currently faces, one would think that his very significant criminal past would more than justify a maximum sentence for both of those convictions.
Your constituents are watching and likely taking note.
There are also likely getting highly concerned.
November 2014 will be here before you know it.
